Janet Cleghorn BA hons Industrial Design (woven textiles)

During my 15  years working in the textile Industry I continued to be an "occassional" painter. Since 2010 I have developed this further particularily concentrating on still lifes in mixed media.  Following is a little introduction to my paintings.

 I love colour and pattern!!
My still life paintings feature "treasures" - textile samples, embroidery, lace, china, old bottles....... collected over the years.  Fruit and flowers placed with these give freshness to the groupings.  These arrangements are looked upon from an aerial perspective and I work quite methodically from the base completeing one "level" at a time.  The importance of the fabrics and their construction within the paintings reflect my past in textile design.  The aerial view allows the shapes and patterns to be flattened and refined and traditional subject matter takes on a quirky more contemporary feel.
